I am running ubuntu maverick + apache2.2 and i did some reading up on using mod_vhost_alias to serve/create subdomains on the fly. but, when i try installing it through apt, all i can find is. I currently use mod_vhost_alias with a wildcard serveralias to catch all subdomains for the domain i use to hold development versions of websites. this works great, but i reach an issue when i need. Configuring `mod_vhost_alias` to server subdomain-based websites up vote 0 down vote favorite i am currently in the process of setting up an apache server that will be hosting projects built from svn using a continuous integration server..
It may change when using mod_vhost_alias... and rewritecond behavior might change too. to accomplish the question i was asking about, i ended up using symbolic links for the actual domains. i setup a bunch of subdomains with associated folders so that sub1.stddomain.com would go to the folder sub1.stdomain.com.. Now we want to expand on this shared configuration by applying the same rewriterules to all subdomains / directories - from within the vhost configuration's <directory> block - but we do not know how to reference the subdomain / directory. we're basically trying to do something like this (note the use of %1, which doesn't work in this case):. I need to figure out a way to log the subdomain so i can then split up the log file to offer each of my members individual statistics. also i have many other virtualhosts set up on this server so using a global mod_vhost_alias with virtualdocumentroot is not an option..
